We are not going to pretend Palestine is close to us. It is not. So let's start with the drive, be honest about who should make it, and then talk about the two other paths that might fit your life better.
First, the drive — because that is the real question
Our campus is at 2800 Gilmer Rd, Suite 106 in Longview. From Palestine that is roughly 95 miles, and depending on the route you take and the time of day, you should plan on somewhere around an hour and forty-five minutes each way. Map it yourself before you decide anything — your exact address and your route matter more than our estimate.
Three and a half hours of driving on a class day is a lot to ask of a person. It is not impossible, and people do harder things every week. But it should be a decision you make with your eyes open, not something you sign up for and discover in week two.
So here is how we would think about it if you were sitting across the desk from us.
Option 1: commute to Longview
Our in-person program runs about 12 weeks and meets on a daytime schedule — either Mon/Wed/Fri or Tue/Thu, depending on which class you join. That means a commuting student from Palestine is looking at either three long days a week or two longer ones.
Who this is genuinely right for: someone whose schedule is already clear on those days, who has a dependable vehicle, and who learns best with an instructor standing next to them and a real instrument in their hand. If you have tried online courses before and quietly stopped, the drive may be exactly what you need.
Who it is wrong for: someone stacking the drive on top of a full-time job and small kids with no help. That is the version that burns out in week four, and we would rather tell you that now than take your money and watch it happen.
One thing that makes the drive easier to absorb: classes here are capped at 8 students. You are not driving an hour and a half to watch somebody else get the chair time. Here is what a class of eight actually feels like.
Option 2: train online, from your kitchen table
Our online program covers the same curriculum, it is self-paced, and it starts any day you are ready. No drive, no class-day schedule to build your week around.
Be clear-eyed about what it is, though. Online is coursework. It is the vocabulary, the anatomy, the charting logic, the infection-control chain, the insurance workflow — the part you can genuinely learn from a screen. It is not hands-on chair time, and we will never describe it that way.
For a lot of people in Anderson County, the smart play is to start online, get the knowledge under your belt while life is what it is, and decide about hands-on training later. We wrote a full honest comparison of the two formats here.
Option 3: wait — and yes, this is a real option
Nobody in this business likes to say "wait." We will say it anyway, because the version of you who starts in a bad season and quits in week five is worse off than the version who starts three months later and finishes.
Waiting is the right call when the drive is only survivable if absolutely nothing goes wrong, when the money would come out of rent, or when you are three weeks from a move, a baby, or a job change. Put a date on the calendar instead of leaving it open-ended, and use the wait: run the free practice exam, work the flashcards, and show up in January already knowing the vocabulary.
What we would not do is wait quietly and alone. Call or text us and say "not yet, but here's when" — that sentence is worth more than you think.

The real class dates, and the real hours
These come straight out of our scheduling system, not a brochure. Every in-person class is daytime, at the Longview campus, capped at 8 students:
- September 29 — Tue/Thu, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- October 5 — Mon/Wed/Fri, 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
- October 20 — Tue/Thu, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- November 9 — Mon/Wed/Fri, 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
- November 17 — Tue/Thu, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

What it costs, and how people actually pay for it
Current tuition for both the in-person and online programs lives on the enrollment page, and it is the same number we charge at the desk — we do not run a hidden price. Before you assume you cannot afford it: we accept Texas Workforce Solutions funding, WIOA, and GI Bill benefits, and we are a TWC-licensed career school (license #S5316). Those programs are run by the agencies, not by us, so eligibility is their call — but plenty of people never ask, and that is the expensive mistake.
Add the fuel into your own math if you are commuting. It is real money and we would rather you count it now.
And after you finish?
Anderson County has dental offices, and so does everything between you and us. Finishing a program does not hand you a license — in Texas, registering as a dental assistant goes through the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, and their requirements are the ones that count. What we give you is the Certificate of Completion and the training behind it.
