Dental Assistant Training Near Diana, TX: The Realistic Picture

There is no dental assisting school in Diana. That is the honest starting point — and it is not the problem it sounds like. Here is what your real options look like from an Upshur County address, what the drive actually costs you, and how to size up any program before you hand over a dollar.

First, where the campus actually is

Premier Dental Academy of Longview has one campus, and it is in Longview: 2800 Gilmer Rd, Suite 106. We do not have a Diana location, a Gilmer location, or an Ore City location, and we are not going to pretend otherwise on a page you found by searching for one.

What we do have is a program that a lot of Upshur County people drive to. Diana sits on US‑259, which runs more or less straight down into Longview, so for most Diana addresses this is a commute you would already make for a doctor's appointment or a weekend run to town. Pull it up in your own maps app before you decide — your address, your time of day. That number is the one that matters, not ours.

Why we say this out loud: a school that lists a city it does not have a building in is telling you something about how it handles the rest of its details. Ask any program you are considering for a street address you can drive to.

If you want the short version with directions and start dates on one screen, we keep a Diana, TX page for exactly that.

The two real options from Diana

There are two, and they are genuinely different products — not a good one and a discount one.

1. In-person at the Longview campus. Roughly 12 weeks, hands-on, in a room set up like a working dental office with real equipment and real instruments. Classes are capped at eight students, which is the whole point: eight people means you actually get chair time instead of watching someone else get it. Classes are daytime. Current cohorts run Mon/Wed/Fri 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM or Tue/Thu 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, depending on which start date you pick — and you can always call or text (903) 913-6444 to confirm before you plan around it.

2. The online program. Self-paced, start any day, same curriculum, done from your kitchen table in Diana. What it is not is physical hands-on training — we will not tell you a laptop teaches you to pass an instrument. It is the right call for some people and the wrong call for others, and we would rather you know which you are before you pay.

Pricing for both is published on the site rather than hidden behind a phone call. See /enroll for the in-person figures and payment plan, /online for the self-paced program, and the tuition planner if you want to see what a payment schedule would actually look like on your calendar.

The drive, honestly

This is the part people underestimate. A commute that sounds fine on a Tuesday in September can feel very different in week nine, in the rain, with a kid to drop off first. So do the arithmetic before you enroll, not after.

Put your own one-way drive time in below — the number your maps app gives you, not a guess — and pick the cohort format you are looking at. Nothing here is stored or sent anywhere.

Your drive, over a whole program

Enter your own drive time to see the totals. Round trip, 12 weeks. Your numbers stay in your browser.

What hands-on actually buys you

If you are going to spend that time on US‑259, the training on the other end has to be worth the trip. What that means here:

A fair warning: finishing a program is not the same as being registered with the state. Your certificate of completion comes from the school. Texas RDA registration is a separate process run by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners — requirements change, so check tsbde.texas.gov directly rather than taking any school's word for it, ours included.

Paying for it from a small-town budget

Nobody in Diana has a spare tuition payment lying around, and we are not going to pretend the money part is easy. What we can tell you is what exists:

Texas Workforce Solutions and WIOA funding, GI Bill and veterans' benefits, and an in-house payment plan are all real paths people here have used. Whether you qualify for any of the agency-funded ones is decided by the agency, not by us — we cannot promise you approval, and you should be suspicious of any school that does. Start with the funding finder to see which doors are worth knocking on, and the savings starter if you are building a cushion first.

One thing worth knowing before you compare schools: a payment-plan total and a pay-in-full price are usually two different numbers. Ours are, and we publish both. Ask every program you talk to for the plan total, not just the sticker price.

How to check out any program before you pay

Use this on us too. A program worth your money will answer all of it without flinching:

Two of ours go deeper on this: how to verify a school is legit in Texas and red flags, from people who run one.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a dental assistant school in Diana, TX?

Not that we know of. The nearest hands-on option for most Diana residents is the Longview campus on Gilmer Rd, a straight run down US‑259. If the drive does not work for your schedule, the self-paced online program starts any day.

Do I have to live in Longview to enroll?

No. Students commute in from all over Gregg, Upshur, and the surrounding counties. Where you sleep is not a requirement — whether you can reliably make class is.

Can I start online and switch to in-person later?

People ask this a lot, and the answer depends on where you are in the program and which cohort has room. Call or text (903) 913-6444 and Amanda will tell you straight whether it works for your situation.
