Dental assistant school near Carthage, TX: your real options
There is no dental assisting program in Carthage itself. That is the honest starting point — and it is also not the problem it sounds like, because Panola County sits at the bottom of a job corridor that runs straight up to Longview.
Option 1: drive to Longview
Our campus is at 2800 Gilmer Rd, Suite 106 in Longview. From Carthage that is roughly an hour, depending on which way you go and how you drive it. Most Panola County students take TX-149 northwest through Tatum and into the Longview side, or run US-79 up to Henderson and cut over. Neither one is a hard drive — it is two-lane East Texas highway most of the way, and there is no city traffic to fight until you are almost there.
The in-person program runs about 12 weeks. Classes are daytime, and classes are capped at 8 students, so you are not learning dental assisting from row six of a lecture hall. If you want the exact class hours before you commit to the drive, call or text (903) 913-6444 — that is the fastest way to find out whether the schedule works with your life.
August 17 and August 25, 2026, then September 14, September 29, November 9, and November 17. The full list, always current, is on the calendar page.
Option 2: take it online from home
If an hour each way is not realistic — and for a lot of people with kids, a job, or one vehicle in the household, it is not — the online course is the same curriculum, fully online and self-paced. You start any day. It is $397 right now as a limited-time sale, regular price $997.
The trade-off is real and we will not pretend otherwise: online is coursework, not hands-on lab time. No operatory, no real instruments in your hands. The useful part is that 100% of your $397 transfers as credit toward in-person tuition if you decide within 90 days that you want the hands-on version. So it works well as a low-cost way to find out whether this field is for you before you commit to the commute. There is a full honest comparison in who the $397 online course is right for.
What it costs
In-person is $3,000 paid in full, or $3,500 on a payment plan — $500 down to hold your seat, then the $3,000 balance in simple weekly or monthly payments. Online is $397 (regular $997). No promo codes and no advertised discounts; the price you see is the price.
We accept Texas Workforce Solutions, GI Bill, and WIOA. If you are working with a case manager in the East Texas workforce region, funding is worth asking about before you pay out of pocket — start with how WIOA funding works for dental assistant training in East Texas. You can also build your exact payment schedule in the tuition planner.
Run your own commute numbers
Everybody's math is different, so here is a calculator that uses only your numbers — nothing assumed, nothing invented.
Fuel only — this does not include wear, tires, or childcare. Use it as a floor, not a full budget.
Where Panola County graduates actually work
This is the part worth thinking about before you pick a route. Carthage has dental practices of its own, and so does Henderson up US-79. Beyond that, the Longview and Kilgore side of the corridor is where most of the hiring volume sits. A Carthage-based assistant realistically has three tiers to look at: work in town, work in Henderson, or make the Longview drive for a wider set of openings.
We do not publish placement percentages we cannot back with data, so we will not throw a number at you here. What we will say is that job placement help with East Texas offices is part of what tuition includes, and the offices we work with are in this corridor. For an honest look at pay ranges before you plan around them, see the East Texas RDA salary page.
Finishing a school program and being registered with the state are two different things. Registration as a Registered Dental Assistant in Texas goes through the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, which sets its own current requirements and fees. Verify those directly with TSBDE — they change, and we would rather send you to the source than quote you something stale.
If you want to try before you drive
Everything on our tools page is free and takes about five minutes to poke at. Practice Pro is the practice-management trainer — real charting, real scheduling, the kind of screen you would actually sit in front of. The free Texas RDA practice exam tells you fast whether the material clicks for you. Neither one costs anything or requires you to enroll.
