If you search "dental assistant school Tatum TX," you won't find a campus in town. Tatum is a small place, and small places don't carry vocational programs with operatories and X-ray equipment in them. What Tatum does have is a very good position: you're a short run up TX-149 from Longview, and a short run over to Henderson and Carthage in the other directions.

Our campus is at 2800 Gilmer Rd, Suite 106, Longview, TX 75604 — a little over 20 miles from Tatum, which for most people is somewhere in the half-hour neighborhood depending on the time of day and how you cut through town.

So the real question isn't "is there a school in Tatum?" It's "is that drive worth it for about 12 weeks?" Let's look at what you're actually signing up for.

What the schedule actually asks of you

This is the part people get wrong. They imagine a five-day-a-week commute for two years, which would be a genuine hardship from Tatum. That's not this.

In-person cohorts meet two or three days a week — Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday — during the daytime, for about 12 weeks. That's it. Then you're finished and looking for work.

Classes are capped at 8 students and taught by our founder, Amanda Williams, RDA. The room is built to behave like a working dental office rather than a classroom — real instruments, real tray setups, and the same kinds of practice-management and clinical workflows you'll be expected to handle on the job.

That includes charting on an anatomical tooth chart, running a six-point periodontal chart, working a drag-and-drop appointment schedule, writing clinical notes, and moving an insurance claim through to the EOB in our own trainers. The point of all of it is simple: when you walk into an office for an interview, the operatory and the software shouldn't be the first thing intimidating you.

What it costs

In-person tuition is $3,000 paid in full, or $3,500 on a payment plan — $500 down holds your seat, then the $3,000 balance in simple weekly or monthly payments. No fees bolted on later. Where Tatum graduates actually work

Here's the thing about training from a small town: it's an advantage on the way out, not just an obstacle on the way in.

A practice in Longview or Tyler sees applications regularly. A practice in Tatum, Henderson, Carthage or Overton often doesn't — and when a trained, certified assistant who already lives twenty minutes away walks in, that's not one résumé in a stack. Practically, most people from Tatum end up looking along two corridors: north into Longview and Kilgore, or south and east through Henderson and Carthage.
