Start with the geography, not the sales pitch

From Van to our campus in Longview is roughly an hour and a quarter, depending on your route and where in the county you start — and that is an estimate, so map your own address before you weigh anything else on this page. One: how many people are in the room

Our classes are capped at eight. That number is the whole design, not a detail — it decides how often you are the person holding the instrument instead of the person watching someone else hold it. In a small room you cannot hide in the back, which is uncomfortable for about a week and then becomes the reason you actually learn.

What a class of eight feels like goes into what that is like day to day. Ask every school you visit for their number. A school that answers with a range, or with the word "small," has not answered.

Two: what your hands actually touch

The room here is set up to work like a dental office rather than like a lecture hall — real equipment and instruments, arranged the way they sit in practice. Alongside that we built our own software trainers, because the part new assistants struggle with is rarely the clinical work; it is the charting and the paperwork nobody practices until their first real job.

So there is a tooth chart, a six-point AAP perio chart, a prescription pad with an allergy guard, a drag-and-drop schedule, SOAP-note documentation, and the insurance claim and EOB workflow. Three: who is teaching

Amanda Williams owns this school and teaches in it. When you ask a question in week six, you are asking the person whose name is on the building. That is not automatically better than a larger program with a teaching staff — but it is different, it is checkable, and it is a fair thing to weigh.

Ask anywhere you are considering: who will be in the room with me, every class day, by name? Then see how long the answer takes.

The schedule, the online option, and the money

In-person classes are daytime, in one of two formats: Mon/Wed/Fri, 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM or Tue/Thu, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, depending on the cohort. There are no evening, night or Saturday classes. At your distance, count trips rather than hours — three shorter mornings a week is more highway than two longer days, and over twelve weeks that gap is what decides whether people finish.
